Gustavus Marine Charters is offering a new day trip adventure for 2011.
Kayaking with the whales at Point Adolphus. This is a fully guided trip that departs Gustavus at 8:30 AM and returns at 3:30 PM. With the Kahsteen as your base, you and your guide will paddle at one of Alaska's most outstanding marine mammal sites. Point Adolphus in Icy Strait is known to be one of the few areas in southeast Alaska that has a resident summer population of humpback whales that feed in the area.
Known locally as the "core group" these animals are usually found working within a mile or two of the point, feeding on the abundant herring, capelin and krill. Sea lions, seals, sea otters and harbor porpoise are a common site, and occasionally a brown bear will be spotted foraging on the beach.
Enjoy a hot lunch and then return to the kayak for an afternoon paddle or just take in the scene from the comfort of our yacht.
We use Easy Rider fiberglass double kayaks. These are very stable rudder equipped sea kayaks and include paddles, sprayskirts, and PFDs. Rain gear and rubber boots can be provided.
Minimum two, Maximum six guest. $435 per person plus tax. Price does not include transportation to dock or gratuities.
